Don Van Horn, Watercolorist
Having been reared through childhood and adolescence in a Chicago suburb, Chicagoland remains a memorable and nostalgic area and the stimulus for subject matter rendered in color photography and watercolor. Under the instruction of Charles Vickery, Chicago artist, I learned the fundamentals of drawing, shading, perspective and composition. I have entered paintings in art competitions and now have a record of many acceptances and prizes in such major annual competitions as American Watercolor Society (silver medal, and three additional awards), the Watercolor USA, Rocky Mountain National, the Kansas 7-State, Colorado Watercolor Society (two best of show awards), and others. I was profiled in an article, “The 26 Best Watermedia Paintings of 1999" in the 2000 Winter issue of “Watercolor Magic.” I am a signature member of the Rocky Mountain Watercolor Society, the Pikes Peak Watercolor Society, a member of the honor society of Watercolor, USA, and a signature member of the American Watercolor Society.
